Small Businesses Receive a Further Delay for Obtaining Obamacare Coverage

The Internal Revenue Service announced today that employers with fewer than 100 employees will not have to provide health insurance under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which is often called Obamacare, until 2016. This is the second delay of this key requirement of the health care law. Under the law, employers with 50 or more employees are required to provide health insurance benefits to their employees. However, pressure from business groups have led to delayed implementation of the law.

Firms with over 100 employees will have to provide coverage to at least 70 percent of their employees starting in 2015.
