All You Ever Wanted to Know About Insurance

What’s the requirement for companies to provide loss runs on request?

It applies to all commercial-lines policies. C.G.S. Section 38a-326 provides that insurers shall provide, upon request of the principal named insured, a summary of policy claim information for a period of up to four years prior to the date of the request. Such information shall include the following: 1) each policy number; 2) each period of coverage; 3) the number of claims; 4) the paid losses of all loss information; and 5) the date of each loss. An insurer shall provide this information not later than 30 days after receipt of a written request by the principal named insured.

Additionally, Section 38a-326 states that whenever a policy for commercial auto insurance or general liability insurance is nonrenewed or canceled by the insured or the insurer, the insurer shall furnish the insured with a written report that includes a detailed listing of incurred losses.
